Korea Bang News

Last week, the police in Suwon city announced that they may have caught a serial killer. He was discovered when his last victim made a call (unsuccessfully) to 112 (their 911). They did a search of his apartment the next day and found a young woman cut into 280 pieces. I heard about this not on the news, not online, but from my language partner.
One of the hardest parts of living in Korea is being in such a highly populated area and having so little interaction with the people around me. It is mostly limited to shopkeepers, waitresses, and taxi drivers. I really don't know much about what is going on around me.
Thanks to the folks at The Waygook Effect.com, I now have a decent source for national news that I wouldn't get anywhere else. It run by two British university students studying Korean. They are simply translating stories that they find to be interesting and lack a complete English version. They also translate the reactions and comments of "netizens". It's great practice and exposure for them, and great for English teachers and other foreigners too!
